Yesterday proved to be Super Saturday at Turf Paradise for our oldest mare, Dress Blues. Dress Blues is the first horse we claimed and started our road to Thoroughbred racing.
Dress Blues is a Kentucky bred Mare foaled on April 16, 2006. She has great bloodlines. Her dad is Slew City Slew and her mom is Blue Lupin.
Her race was magnificent. She ran wire to wire. Jorge Carreno, the leading jockey at Turf Paradise had the mount and proved the best. Carreno is a jockey that can be counted on to give it his all. He rode Dress Blues just right, keeping in the lead all the way.
Of course there were smiles all around. Our trainer, Drew Fulmer has done a splendid job with Dress Blues. About three years ago, another trainer had told us that we should consider selling Dress Blues because he thought she might be at the end of her career. Well, I guess he was definitely wrong. Having the best trainer available is the key to success and as far as I am concerned Drew Fulmer is the best of the best for us.
Drew has managed to keep our horses healthy and happy. After the race, before entering the winner’s circle, I watched Drew check out Dress Blues to see that she had pulled up okay. It is Drew’s attention to all the little details that have helped us keep our equine kids in good shape. I can’t thank him enough for all his efforts.
This is the first picture I took of Dress Blues right after we claimed her in 2010.
