Hurray for 2014 — Year of the Horse

Well like many others, I am happy to leave 2013 behind.  It has at times been a trying year, but we look forward now to a prosperous and happy new year.

We ended the year by loosing one  of our horses.  Kuro broke down during a race at Turf Paradise on Monday and had to be put down.  It was very sad as we had seen him as more than just a promising investment.  I know that it happens, but it is always difficult for owners and trainers to see one of their horses go down.  I know that he will be in heaven waiting for me, and I will definitely know at least one horse to bet on in heaven.

We have so many things to be thankful for, that its not fair for us to complain about our failures.  All of our human families are doing well and that’s a blessing beyond comparison.  Our horse family is doing well but we have some adjustments to make.

As I said we lost Kuro.  We are also retiring Grey Moon.  He apparently hurt his leg while running wild on the farm, and it just remains troublesome.  Otherwise he is a healthy and happy horse.  We just don’t want to see any injury to him in a competitive spot like thoroughbred racing.  He should be happy.  I think Grey Moon just wants to be free to enjoy being a horse.  We were successful getting him to break his maiden so he is officially a winner in the thoroughbred world.  It was a glorious race and fabulous accomplishment for our trainer.  Now it’s time to move on and allow Grey Moon to be free!

Happy New Year to all.  Don’t forget to be thankful for everything you accomplished this past year and leave the failures behind.  Greater joy and success are just around the corner!
