In March 2012, our trainer Drew Fulmer purchased a horse from another trainer who apparently had difficulties with this horse. The horse’s name is Pursuxit (silent x). Drew has the reputation of being about to handle some troublesome horses.
The purchase price for Pursuxit made it an attractive deal so we became partners with Drew on this horse.
The first race Pursuxit ran for us was on March 25th, 2012. We had just paid Drew our share of the purchase price on the day of the race. Well, Pursuxit did not pursue the win. In fact, he performed so poorly that Drew must have felt guilty for offering this horse to us. Well, he came running up to where my husband Bill and I were sitting at the track to give us our money back. My husband Bill told Drew that we are partners win or lose . To this date we are still part owners of Pursuxit.
Since purchasing him in March 2012, Pursuxit has won three races for us and has been in the money 38% of the time.
When we first acquired Pursuxit, he was unsettled and hard to control. As a matter of fact, there were grooms at the barn he came from that refused to handle him. With kindness and perseverance, Drew transformed Pursuxit into a loveable character.
I believe he is one of the most intelligent horses in the barn. His stall is next to my favorite horse, Tonight at Eleven . When Pursuxit sees me coming, he knows I will visit with Tonight at Eleven first. Pursuxit acknowledges me, but waits patiently for me to approach him. We always have a pleasant conversation. He is a good listener. I think he realizes that I am still intimidated by him, so he is always gentle with me and never does anything aggressive when I am close to him.
He is a marvelous addition to Drew’s barn. Pursuxit helped prove to me that Drew Fulmer is a man of integrity. Because of that, to me, Pursuxit is worth his weight in gold. Pursuxit has also done his share of keeping us in the business. When you need a win, Pursuxit will pursue it!
